This is the page for my 7th grade science class. It is taught by Mrs. Poole, and I have it for 5th period. It can be boring at times, but most of the time it is very interesting and fun. I love all the hands-on type projects and experiments that we do.
Quarter Four:
In fourth quarter computers, we did an animal presentation. The computer classes and the science classes partnered, and we ended up with a really cool presentation. My group did the chacoan peccary, which I didn't even know existed until now. We had to take a lot of notes on it, and then put it all in a presentation with three other people. It took a few weeks, and lots of editing, but in the end it looked pretty okay. It was also helpful because we got a lot of teaching on how to make a good presentation, which is helpful for other classes. Quarter Three:
In third quarter science we learned about the geologic time scale. The geologic time scale is a chart which divides all of time on earth into Eons, Eras, Periods, and Epochs, in that order. They are organized and sorted based on what happened in that time period, and not necessarily by actual time passed. Because the earth is so old, it has to be organized in MYA, or millions of years ago. Normally on the time scale it will say how many million years have passed since that event ended. Quarter Two:
In science, we made DNA models out of beads and wire. They were very hard to make, because the wire kept getting twisted and the beads would get stuck. It was also only an inch or so long, which also presented an issue, because it was hard to handle it since it was so small. Despite the difficulties though, it was interesting to see how a DNA strand is built. For instance, I learned that although the base pairs always go together, they are not in the same order in every organism. I'm glad that Quarter One:
Recently in science we finished our edible cells project. We had to make an animal or plant cell out of food. In the picture to the left, you can see my cell. I was in charge of the nucleolus and the nucleus. It wasn't very tasty, because I brought a chunk of rolled up tortilla for the nucleolus and half an apple for the nucleus. I wouldn't say we really learned that much about science unfortunately though. We did learn some about teamwork, but honestly it wasn't very educational. I hope we do something a bit more stimulating soon. |
